The District of Columbia Behavioral Health Association (DCBHA) is an organization of mental health providers that provide community based mental health and ancillary services to support the independence of their low income consumers, many of whom are homeless.

For thirty years, DCBHA’s mission has been to expand and improve community based services through its activities in policy advocacy and professional staff development. DCBHA is the only organization in the District of Columbia providing this support to community based mental health agencies in the private sector.

In addition to advocacy and professional development, DCBHA’s priority activities include networking among members and other organizations and educating the community about mental health illness.

Agency members of DCBHA provide community based services to mentally ill District of Columbia residents. Each month, our members assist an average of 5000 consumers with housing, employment, case management, counseling and crisis management.

WHAT'S NEW (updated 11/8/2008)

On Monday, the D.C. Council voted to slash the District's 2009 budget by more than $130 million and freeze an additional $46 million. These cuts included: $2 million from a rent-subsidy program will keep 130 families, now on a waiting list, from receiving assistance; $19 million from a program for first-time home buyers; and $5.6 million from the city's Housing First program, in which 800 homeless residents were scheduled to be placed in permanent housing.
